Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was shot dead in a terrorist attack in Ankara on December 19, according to Russian foreign ministry.
A gunman opened fire from behind, while the Ambassador was delivering a speech at the opening of an exhibition.
One witness said the gunman opened fire on other attendants, injuring three people.
The gunman, a 22-year-old Mevlut Mert Altintas, who had previously worked for the Turkish police, was neutralised on site.
The Ambassador was hospitalised, but died of his injuries, with Russian foreign ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirming Andrei Karlov’s death.
