The world/'s first solar power plant in the shape of two giant pandas was officially put into operation in Datong City, north China/'s Shanxi Province.
The project has built nearly 170,000 solar photovoltaic panels in the shape of two panda cubs, with a power generation capacity of 50 megawatts (MW).
"The photo-voltaic panels we use can generate electricity on both sides, especially on its back side. We hope that such futuristic technology will lead in the development. We have made the panda solar power plants a leader in promoting green energy program," said Li Yuan, CEO of Panda Green Energy Group.
It is estimated that a 100-megawatts solar power plant may provide 3.2 billion kwh of green power in 25 years, equivalent to saving 1.056 million tons of coal or reducing the discharge of 2.74 million tons of carbon dioxide.
