The state visit of President Islam Karimov to the Republic of Latvia at the invitation of the President Andris Berzins is nearing the end. The sides consider the State visit as an important step in the development of bilateral relations, and the priorities are dictated by the mutual interest and trust. The sides are disposed to use the potential of the partnership. There is a substantial potential in the area of economic cooperation.
Major events within the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Latvia were held on 17 October. After the official welcoming ceremony, the head of the country left a message in the guests book. According to the program, it is scheduled to sign a number of documents. Initially, Islam Karimov held talks and Andris Berzins.
During consultations common approaches were developed for the development of bilateral cooperation in the interests of the two countries. In his speech in the meeting in extended format the President Islam Karimov said that the visit is a great opportunity to give a new impetus to cooperation between Tashkent and Riga, and strengthen the existing foundation of mutually beneficial relations. The President of Latvia, in turn, stressed that he attaches special importance to increasing contacts with Uzbekistan. Then the documents on cooperation in communications, public health, environmental protection, investment and trade were signed.
Presidents of Uzbekistan and Latvia signed a joint statement. After that, the head of our state with his Latvian colleague laid flowers on the pedestal of the monument to freedom.
