On March 3, Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the President of the Asian Development Bank Takehiko Nakao, who is staying in our country with a visit.
Welcoming the guest, the head of our state with great satisfaction noted dynamically strengthening mutually beneficial partnership between Uzbekistan and the ADB in implementation of priority programs and projects aimed at modernizing sectors of the economy and infrastructure.
Currently bilateral cooperation portfolio includes 59 projects worth more than $ 14 billion, which attracted funding worth more than $ 6 billion from the bank.
The major completed and ongoing projects with the participation of the Asian Development Bank include construction of modern combined-cycle plants at Talimarjan and Takhiatash thermal power plants, modernization of high-voltage electric lines, implementation of automated power control and accounting systems, construction of typical of houses in rural areas, reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in different regions of the country, restoration of the Amu-Bukhara irrigation canal system, electrification of "Marakand-Karshi" railways, support of small business projects, business and many others.
The meeting discussed issues of further development and increase of efficiency of practical cooperation in the framework of joint cooperation program for 2017-2019.
The parties said that there is a need to promote the priority projects aimed at improving the living standards of the population, especially in rural areas, support for businesses, modernization of the agricultural sector, development of road and transport infrastructure, renewable energy, implementation of energy efficient technologies and others.
ADB President expressed his sincere gratitude to the head of our state for the warm welcome and support of the issues related to strengthening bilateral partnership, he also expressed readiness of the Asian Development Bank to develop full-scale cooperation with Uzbekistan.
Agreements on implementation of 4 small businesses projects in the field of horticulture, development of water supply system and road infrastructure with funding from the bank for 573 million dollars have been signed following the meetings of ADB delegation in the ministries and departments of Uzbekistan.
During the visit to Uzbekistan, Takehiko Nakao also visited Samarkand, Bukhara and Tashkent regions, where he familiarized with the results of investment projects implementation with the participation of the Asian Development Bank.
